I finally finished reading all the three Robert Ludlum’s novels written around the fictional character Jason Bourne a.k.a David Webb… Having watched the first two movies, I just had to read the novels before I went for Bourne Ultimatum on 3rd August.

But, once I started reading the first novel, I realized that the movies, though based on the same lines, are still completely different from the novels. For example, in Bourne Supremacy, the novel takes Bourne to Hong Kong and his wife is very much alive, but in the movie, his wife is killed in the first 15 minutes itself and he never goes far east.

I really liked reading Bourne Identity, but didn’t like Bourne Ultimatum at all… Considering that the movies are just amazing, it was a little difficult to read these novels in beginning. I got really interested in Identity, only after about the first 150 pages. The way Ludlum tries to get the reader to understand Jason’s mental state is really amazing. Also, Ludlum’s use of a lot of French (in Identity) and Chinese (in Supremacy) makes the novel a lot more realistic (but annoying to read at times).

I didn’t like Bourne Ultimatum because it was too long and winding, with a lot of plots and sub-plots that were loosely related to each other. Jason Bourne is 50+ in this novel and knowing that it’s just a bit to hard to imagine him doing all that is written in the novel. Also, so much information was repeated over and over again. I just ended up skipping a lot of pages in the end…

Anyways, so much for the novels…. the movies have been quite amazing. I am really looking forward to the last movie in the Bourne Trilogy. The first two were just amazing and I want to see what’s Bourne up to now…

Watched the 1:40 am show and still didn’t manage to get good seats… This movie sure is all set to break records. We reached about an hour before the start of the movie and still there were about a 100 people ahead of us in line. One kewl part was getting watch IMAX for the first time. The picture quality really is something different on that huge screen. This wasn’t a dome, but it was a great experience never-the-less.

The movie itself wasn’t anything great. It’s worth a watch on the big screen as there are a lot of special effects and a lot of action. But they ended up making this movie so melodramatic that it kind of started to suck. And… I don’t know about others but I found the black spiderman suit better than the red-and-blue one.

All in all… it was fun to be up so late after such a long time… Got into bed at 5:30 in the morning.

The movie…. 7/10.

The first, International Man of Mystery, was best amongst all three and I just couldn’t stand Goldmember, the last one. But considering that there was nothing else that I wanted to do, they were decent enough to get by the boring Sunday afternoon and evening. What I liked most about the three movies was that there was no nudity or obscene language used and it was full of puns. They did tend to get gross at more that one occasions.

p.s. Liz Hurley is hot in Part I…

ok… just came back after watching Shooter. Please avoid this movie. The critics had rightly criticized this movie but +70% that viewers at rottentomatos.com gave it, made me think it might just have something good in it. It seems like, directors here are running out of ideas and are now trying to imitate Indian directors in making flicks that make me go… “so like an Indian (Bollywood) movie…”

Mark Wahlberg, could have done much better with this role. He did fit into the character well, but didn’t act good enough. The action sequences at times reminded me of some that you might see in some super hero movies or in Commando. And a very very stupid ending… 4.5/10

It’s been a long time I have written anything about the movies I have been watching… it’s one of the things I do to get by the boring weekends. Tonight being the Oscar night, I figured, I’ll make a short post listing some of the movies I watched in the past few months and what I thought of them. So here it goes…

The Number 23: A nice movie from Jim Carrey in a long time. I liked most of it, cause I think they ended up screwing the ending. 6/10

Eklavya: Nice movie, with good performances, but again the ending was quite loose and what I hate is seeing movies where we have happy ending and people don’t have to pay for their crimes. 6.5/10

Ghostrider: Stupid, dumb movie, directed like shit. I think after Dhoom 2, this was the first movie that I felt like getting up and walking out of. They could have made a much better movie out of the story they had. 4/10

Pan’s Labyrinth: It derserves all the 6 Oscar nominations. Even though the movie wasn’t in English, I loved watching it. I really loved the way the movie blends the real and the imaginary worlds together. It’s definitely worth a watch. 8.5/10

Gridiron Gang: The standard story of underdogs winning it all. It’s worth a watch if one doesn’t have anything better to do with his/her time. 6.5/10

Saw II: A colleague was raving about this movie and I think that is one of the reason’s I didn’t like it that much. It didn’t live up to the expectations. I had not watched it until sometime back because I thought that the movie will be full of gore, but I think it wasn’t that bad. A nice little twist in the end. 7/10

Smokin’ Aces: Decent action flick, full of mindless action. Not much of a story either. 6/10

Guru: Liked it. 7.5/10

Devil Wears Prada: Nice movie, kind of a girl flick… but I had nothing better to do with my time. 7/10

Borat: Hilarious… shocking… amazing… the dude rocks… 8/10

Stranger than fiction: Actually a strange but a nice story. And the kewl part is that all the time spent with the prof (Dustin Hoffman) is at my university, UIC 7/10

The Prestige: Nothing great… 6/10

Don: As is the case usually, this remake wasn’t half as good as the original. I think it made a lot of money only because of the actors and the fact that people usually want to see how good a job has been done in the remake. One thing that I like was the twist in the end… 6.5/10

Flags of Our Fathers: boring… 6.5/10

Casino Royale: I wish someone had told me that this movie was based on the first James Bond novel. I would have expected it to be different. All the time during the movie, I was wondering what the hell is wrong with this guy ? In retrospect, I think the movie wasn’t all that bad… 7/10

These are all the movies I remember watching… I will post my thought about others that I watch sometime later…

peace…

Watched this movie over the weekend with friends… Simply amazing movie… the best I have seen in a long time. This masterpiece by Martin Scorsese stars Lenoardo as an under-cover cop, Matt Damon as a corrupt cop and Jack Nicholson as the mafia don.

The movie is fast paced and you never realize when the 149 mins pass by. It’s a thriller / drama / action flick that actually makes you laugh. The dialogs are amazing, though full of profanity. The plot is full of twists and the climax just rocks. I am sure the producers and directors must have had more than a couple of endings to choose from.

I would really recommend this movie. Definitely worth a watch. 8.5/10.

Just finished watching all the 6 episodes of Star Wars… they are simply amazing…

I had been wanting to find out for a long time what the who deal was with Star wars… finally decided to watch em and now that I have watched them, I realized that the series is simply amazing. I haven’t seen see any other movie (well… Rocky series), that has had sequels that are either as good, or even better than that original movie.

The episodes 4,5 and 6 were made first and then episode 1, 2 and 3 followed. I was talking to my roomie and he wanted to decide what order to watch these movies in… as usual, just googled it and saw that more or less people are divided over it. So I decided on watching 4, 5, 6 followed by 1, 2 and 3. I must say, it was a wise choice… firstly, movies make more sense that way and after watching the effects and graphics of the newer movies, I am sure I wouldn’t have enjoyed the previous ones.

The only downfall of this approach was that I had to kind of make myself sit through some parts of episode 1 and 2. The other 4 episodes are simply amazing and throughly enjoyable. A little attention and everything makes sense, plus everything is sooooo fast paced…

I am telling you, the 12 odd hours that you are going to spend on watching these movies are going to be definitely worth it…

For more information you can check out IMDB.com or starwars.com.

Here’s a list of the movies:

Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (2002)

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Episode 4: A New Hope (1977)

Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Episode 6: Return of the Jedi (1983)

p.s. I have been doing all this when I should be preparing for interviews, working on project report… have to stop following the heart… and use my freakin brains
